Hindi Songs Online Biography
Born in Kolkata, Pritam is the son of Prabodh Chakraborty, who runs a music school for children. Pritam gained his early training in music from his father, and learned to play the guitar while still in school. Off late he has gained notoriety for the fact that almost all of his compositions till date are blatently plagiarised from lesser known Middle Eastern / Asian / Western artists. After completing his schooling from St. James' School and college education from Presidency College, Pritam joined Bangla band, Chandrabindoo. But of course before that he formed another band with his Presidency batchmates, called "Jotugriher Pakhi". They even have a cassette released to their credit at that time. In January 1993 Pritam joined the Film and Television Institute in Pune to undertake a course in sound recording and sound engineering. During this time, he was offered a chance to compose background music for a film by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal. He also learnt African music from musicologist Kedar Avati.
Pritam has delivered chartbusting tracks from his albums Dhol, Bhool Bhulaiya and Jab We Met. Recently, pritam has given music for a Abbas-Mustan movie "Race" which has a chartbusting track "Pehli nazar mein" sung by Pakistani sensation Atif Aslam. Several of Pritam's hit compositions are said to have been 'inspired' from Turkish singer Tarkan's songs apart from certain other international sources. The recent hit, "Pehli Nazar Main" sung by Pakistani Atif Aslam has also been recognized as a lift from an older Korean song. Another one of Pritam's award winning songs, "Ya Ali", was based on Arabic singer, Guitara's "Ya Ghali".
